The Relationship of Terrorism and Drugs Essay -- Persuasive Argumentat
The Relationship of Terrorism and Drugs Terrorism has many and varied links to the drug trade. Terrorists may use drugs for funding of their cause; may include drugs as part of their cause, as in Peru; or terrorism may be the result of the drug trade, as it is in Columbia's Extraditables and Italy's mafia. With the many linkages between the two crimes it seems that to crackdown on one you must crackdown on the other. The ties between the two are such that enforcement of one will hurt the other, to stop terrorism it would be useful to stop it's funding, purpose, and cause. Drugs are a renewable resource, it?s relatively inexpensive to grow them in fertile soil. There is an enormous profit margin in the drug trade so to those, like terrorists, who are already outside the law, the lure of easy money is strong. Many groups engage in drug trafficking. A notable example is Fuerzas Armadas Revolutionarias de Columbia (FARC) in Columbia. FARC is the military wing of the Columbian Communist Party and has been established since 1966. FARC has ?cooperated with drug interests, offering protection in exchange for money to purchase weapons and supplies? (Henderson, 61). There are other examples throughout the golden triangle and golden crescent where drugs are big business. ?Drugs have become the principle currency for the purchase of weapons? (Jamieson, 72) and this is a problem. Countries then find themselves attacked on two fronts, by both terrorists and the illicit drugs used for funding. Drugs provide funds through more than cultivation. Various grou ps aid in drug trafficking and gain funding through services, not growing, ?Tamils also find employment as couriers...as a means of financing their independence struggle in... ...organized crime is still terrorism, although it?s directed and self-serving it has political aspects and still fits most definitions. In these brief examples we gain a sense that the war on drugs and the war on terrorism overlap. These two efforts have bonds that need to be explored. In order to effectively target terrorism you also need to address the drug trade that in various instances provides funding, purpose, or reason for the terrorism. Bibliography: Henderson, Harry. Pollution and Environment Essay - Modest Proposal for Methanol and Etha
A Modest Proposal for Methanol and Ethanol Powered Cars à à à à à "We need more stringent regulations on car emissions... Let's add MTBE to the fuel- that will reduce pollution... If people would just stop driving so much, pollution wouldn't be so bad..." People have long recognized the problems with the gasoline we used now.à We have tried everything from putting regulations on emissions, to putting additives in the gasoline (only to discover later that MTBE got into the groundwater), to campaigns to get people off the road.à However, more and more cars are on the roads as the population increases, and people are not going to stop driving.à Additives are as likely to cause problems as they are to prevent them.à Just changing the regulations is not going to fix the environment. à The United States can decrease its dependence on oil-producing nations and improve the environment without robbing every citizen's pocketbook. The gasoline used in most cars today produces pollution, endangers people's health, forces us to be dependent on OPEC (Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Companies) or other oil production organizations, and contributes to global warming.à The main reason people have not converted to cleaner, healthier fuel is that hybrid and electric cars are more expensive than the cars and gasoline we are using now.à However, we could implement a program for selling cleaner fuel at a lower cost than it is now offered.à If this program wereà organized correctly, the increased costs would be minimal in the long run and the benefits would be enormous.à After considering several possibilities, I concluded that alcohol-burning cars are more practical than other environmentally friendly options because electric and h... .... 8 Nov 2001 <http://www.californialung.org/spotlight/cleanair01_alt.html>. Meaning of Irish Place Names and Surnames
A little bit about the history of Irish place names. It may come as a surprise, but only a small portion of names comes directly from English language. The big majority of names here are anglicisations of Irish (Gaeilge) names and few names come from Old Norse. The name of Ireland itself comes from the Gaeilge name Eire, added to the Germanic word land. In mythology, Eire was an Irish goddess of the land and of sovereignty. My boyfriend? s surname is Doyle, the twelfth most common surname in Ireland. Now we know that the statement that the name is derived form the Irish word Doibh (meaning dark, gloomy, melancholy) can be disregarded as it is generally accepted that the correct derivation is dhubh-ghall, meaning Norse invader or dark foreigner. Its variations in English are Doyelle, Doyley, MacDowell or O Dubhghaill in Irish. One of my best friend ? s surname is Ruane. It is an anglicized form of the Old Gaelic ââ¬Å"_O'Ruadhain_â⬠, which translates as ââ¬Å"the descendant of the red oneâ⬠. We donââ¬â¢t know whether ââ¬Å"Ruadhanâ⬠(red) refers to complexion of skin or red hair, or to some event relating to the abilities as a warrior but it is a descriptive nickname from the pre-medieval period. I have to note here that my friend Aidan is neither ginger nor a warrior. Overall, all I have to admit is that I had great fun discovering facts about origin of Irish place names and surnames. I have a better understanding about the importance of Irish language and the heritage it brings. I got to know Irish history better and will definitely keep eyes open even more next time when travelling around Ireland. Dystopian Society Essay
A world composed of dystopian elements, hope and dreams are shattered, bashed by the greater power of the antagonist. Such a place of melancholy is unheard of in the society of today because the human race has been fortunate as to steered off from making those bad, negative decisions. Americans live head up high, carefree of the problems of 3rd world nations and arrogant when it comes to the topic of superiority all because of how spoiled they have gotten throughout the ages. They live such an easy, simplistic lifestyle. But in the tales of both Wall-E and Fahrenheit 451, ignorance and oppression has seized their once brilliant world. Human misery has been engraved into each of their members starting at birth and everything has turned into a test of brute force with only the strong surviving. It is a ââ¬Å"dog eat dog world. â⬠Even though they both face misery and limitations, many elements between these two worlds are different. Those being how their societies are treated by their head leaders and many others. In the pixilated movie of Wall-E, dystopian elements are present when humans have been detrimental to their home planet. Rather than taking the time and effort to recover Earth to its former glory, the irrational people prioritize on building a ship and abandoning Earth for the time being. They try to find a new utopia in the universe, similar to the living conditions of Earth. However, they live in a paradox as their new lives in a place they hoped to improve render them lethargic and ignorant. Ironically, the robots built by the humans seem to have more depth and dynamics in their thoughts and characters. The novel, Fahrenheit 451, is a tale about a young manââ¬â¢s adventure when his eyes finally open up and learns how to differentiate the good from the corruption and the deception spoon fed to him by his upper leaders. Though convinced that society is wonderful and prosperous through the usage of brainwashing, the presence of human misery can be felt from miles apart. Many similarities are revealed between the two masterpieces. One being that they are both in a state of dystopia due to how miserable both societies are. Even though signs of sadness are not shown, deep inside every civilianââ¬â¢s mind, it is guaranteed to be present. They both had something taken away from them, those being the Earth and books. Deprived of their once cherished belongings, both colonies tried to fill the void with an alternative, a new planet and tv parlors. They also rely heavily on technology which in turn makes society not emphasize the importance of personal hygiene, face to face communication, and the moral belief that not everything revolves around them. Even though they both live in tragedy, depressed and ignorant day by day, many differences are shown throughout. In Fahrenheit 451, the main cause of the dystopian society was the censorship of books and the criticism on the academically advanced. However, in Wall-E, ignorance and the state of being lethargic caused its societyââ¬â¢s downfall. In the end, a dystopian world is simply a world of corruption. Filled with tragedy, feelings of emptiness, and depression, a sad life is guaranteed to all of its society.

Qualifications or Experiences Is Important? Essay
Linh: Today, weââ¬â¢ll talk about the topic: experience and qualifications. And thereââ¬â¢s a statement that: ââ¬Å"Experience and ability are more important than qualificationsâ⬠. Do you agree or not agree? Letââ¬â¢s discuss it with two members in my group. Hi, Tam! What do you think? Tam: Um, I think qualifications are more important. Because if we have no paper qualification, weââ¬â¢ll have a lot of difficuties when we begin to work or apply for a job. Because we donââ¬â¢t have basic knowledge and chance to get insight into a specific field that weââ¬â¢ll work. So, many people say that: ââ¬Å"University is a key to open a new window to our future.â⬠And every year, students who finish school, they often enter a university and try their best to achieve. Because it is not easy to pass exams. Therefore, the way that we go will longer and hard when going to college. Linh: Yes, I do agree with your opinion, but you know, university is not the only wa to go in life. In reality, many people achieve their goals but have no qualifications. They sucess because of their effort and their ability. You know, they always want to have knowledge as much as possible. They study at university and experience themselves on part-time job in their free time. And it brings so much experience. So, although they donââ¬â¢t succeed on their studying, they still accumulate much experience and ability for themselves. In the end, they become a professional in field which they are working. How about you, Ngoc? Ngoc: yes, I agree with Linh and Tam. Students who graduate at university doesnââ¬â¢t always reflect true their ability. Because a personââ¬â¢s true ablility have to show by passing interview when he or she applies for a job. But most interviews is not only acquired test about knowledge that he learned at college but also practice or experience in life. Because, at university, he is learned theory than practice. Do you think so? Linh: Yes,right! Tam: Ok, I agree. Linh: So, my group go to conclusion is that experience and ability are as important as university qualifications. They are always necessary for everyone. Thank you for your listening!

Being a safe, stable and prosperous country Australia is an increasingly attractive hub for international and regional business and business operations. Politic al environment In Australia, it is a liberal-capitalistic democracy. The state keeps interfering substantially in the economy through the use of various roles; for instance the parliament might decide to set up importation taxes aimed to protect the national economy, or it might create environmental protection laws aimed to protect the natural heritage of the country. This affects international business because when taxes keep varying and increasing especially there will be an impact on the economy which in turn will affect the exchange rates and currency rate. According to surveys Australiaââ¬â¢s economy continued to gather pace in March as world demand for commodities boosted the nationââ¬â¢s coffers. However due to recent uncertainty from the European debt crisis could lower expectations of economic growth in the future.
